But first we need to make this caveat: although sharing and embedding YouTube videos on the internet is legal, downloading for offline use is not always legal.
Note: Downloading videos is considered a violation of YouTube’s Terms of Service unless the video streaming site specifically allows the downloading of certain videos.
But let’s see how to download videos on YouTube. This guide includes an easy-to-use desktop app called 4K Video Downloader.
Step 1: Download the 4K Video Downloader app
Go to the 4K Video Downloader website and click the green Get 4K Video Downloader button to download it. This application is available for Windows, macOS (10.13 or higher) and Ubuntu. Run the downloaded installer to install the application on your computer.
If you don’t have a 4K screen, don’t deviate from the name. Step 2: Copy the YouTube video’s URL
The next step is the simplest: simply navigate to the YouTube video you want to download and copy the URL from the address bar at the top of the browser window. When the URL is locked and loaded on the clipboard, you can close the window or video tab.
Step 3: Paste in the URL
Open the 4K Video Downloader app that you just installed. You don’t need to enter the URL manually. Just click the Paste Link button in the top left corner of the menu bar and the software will pull the URL from your computer’s clipboard.
Step 4: Download your video
After you have reviewed your video, you will be presented with a number of options, formats, and conversions for video quality. You can also set a location for video downloading. The app will then create a folder containing all downloaded videos. Note that the videos captured by the software are based on your IP address and not the URL you enter. Because of this, VPN users may need to change their location in order to download the correct version.
Just click the Download button after selecting the options you want. A progress page will then be displayed, listing the download size, download speed, and estimated time remaining. You can stop the download at any time.
When the download is complete, select your video from the window. A three vertical dot icon will appear on the right side of the window. Click this icon and a menu will appear. Select the Show in Folder option from this menu to find out where the new videos are stored on your computer.
